WHO ARE WE?

Boost Learning is a small start-up tutoring business established in Sept 2022 by Gladys Li & Anne Zhang when they decided to leave classroom teaching to build a model for student learning that we believe to be most impactful: knowing each child first, personalizing the experience for our students, and making sure our lessons are goal-oriented and reflective. We believe in empowering students as they participate in the goal-setting and planning process. Thus, students are empowered to take ownership of their own learning journey. Boost Learning continues to grow a team of instructors who carry unique expertise and embody the company’s mission and model.

OUR TEAM

All our tutors are experts in at least one subject area and trained in the Boost Learning model and curriculum. Our tutors are state-certified teachers, college students, and college graduates with at least 4 years of tutoring in an area such as math, reading, writing, SAT/ACT, etc. We currently offer virtual tutoring nationally and in-person tutoring in Northern Jersey. We have tutors serving the following areas: Bergen County, Hudson County, and Union County. We are always looking for highly qualified tutors and teachers to join our growing team!

Individualized Tutoring

We offer private tutoring in-person or online, tailored to the unique needs of your child. The first step of this program is a consultation where we set initial goals through assessments and an interview to get to know your child. Our instructors use the goal-setting document to plan instruction and report on the goals after each session. Students actively participate in goal-setting and continual evaluation of their progress, which allows them to own their learning and feel confident in their power to grow as learners. Parent Feedback and Results

On the MAP test, our students have demonstrated “High Growth” scoring above the average range, in their Math and Reading scores after working with us for one year. Students who continually complete our homework assignments, attend our weekly sessions, and set and tackle their academic goals, demonstrate higher confidence and scores on standardized tests.

What steps do we take to increase student success?

We prioritize best-fit instructors to help students achieve learning goals. Our beginning process is to conduct a consultation and evaluation to learn more about what your child’s needs are. We will then consider which instructor would work best with your child. Our instructors receive support from us, as we work alongside them in planning and preparation. Our instructors also follow the same mission and model of continually assessing goals and updating you on the progress.

Tutoring Match Process

After completing the our Interest Form, Boost Learning will:
1. Fill out our Interest Form.
2. Reach out to schedule a free consultation to learn about your child’s learning needs.
3. Schedule an evaluation for your child.
4. Suggest a best-fit tutor and work with you on scheduling. If a best-fit tutor is not available, students may be placed on a waitlist.
5. Send out Google Calendar event invites for sessions.
6. Students and tutor sessions begin! Boost Learning continually works with families to support student learning; parents can accept or modify sessions, make adjustments to learning goals, and continually communicate with Boost Learning throughout the process.

CTY Program at Johns Hopkins Admissions

Our Private Tutoring for CTY Gifted and Talented Students is a personalized and intensive educational support service tailored to meet the unique needs of exceptionally bright and motivated learners. We understand the challenges faced by gifted students in traditional classrooms, and our experienced tutors can provide targeted guidance, mentorship, and enrichment. We have helped students score CTY-level and high honors level of CTY program through the SCAT, SSAT, and CogAT. Boost Learning is experienced with the test prep process and can assist students every step of the way to pave their future of academic excellence and intellectual fulfillment.

Facts about the 3 Common Types of HS Entrance Tests

High School Placement Test (HSPT): The HSPT is a nationally-recognized exam for 8th-grade students to enter private high schools. The HSPT has a unique 25-minute language section consisting of 60 questions, covering punctuation, capitalization, spelling, grammar, usage, and composition. The HSPT also tests vocabulary through antonyms, synonyms, analogies, verbal classifications, and logic. Different types of questions are all mixed, but the HSPT tends to be the easiest of the three tests.Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE): The ISEE is an admissions exam for private middle and high schools, consisting of Vocabulary, Math, and Reading Comprehension sections. The ISEE's math sections tend to be difficult, even for advanced students. Students must be well-versed in critical thinking, number logic, and the four operations to ace the two math sections: Math Achievement and Quantitative Reasoning.Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT): The SSAT is a private school admission test for students entering grades 4 to 12, and it is offered online and in paper form. The SSAT tests student vocabulary with two different types of questions that are given in separate sections: synonyms and analogies. The SSAT reading section can be challenging but reasonable for well-prepared students.

How do you hire your instructors?

Boost Learning has a thorough evaluation and onboarding process in order to maintain a high level of instructional professionalism and quality. Part of the hiring process includes the demonstration of planning and preparing a lesson, as well as the ability to utilize best practices in teaching. Our instructors carry unique background experiences which we consider, as we carry out our tutoring match process.

How long and how often are tutoring sessions?

Typically, our sessions last 1-hr, but we do suggest sessions twice a week. This allows students to gain more accountability in managing their workload and have more time spent comprehensively reviewing new materials.

What are your rates?

Rates vary depending on the tutoring subject and plan. We offer discount packages for students attending our partnership schools, as well as a variety of class sizes at different price points.

When do I pay for the sessions? Who do I pay?

Package renewals and initial payments must be paid prior to the start of a new session. All payments should be made via Zelle or check to our email. All payments will be managed by an admin of Boost Learning.

Refund Policy

In the event that a package must be refunded due to extenuating circumstances, a refund can be issued for the remaining unused hours after deducting the total amount of the used hours based on an la carte rate. Group class refunds are available up until the date of the 3rd class granted that the student demonstrated trying their very best in fully completing all assignments and classwork.

Are you an expert in a content area, experienced in tutoring, and passionate about teaching students? We are looking for certified teachers or expert content area instructors with a minimum of 2 years working with children. Boost Learning instructors are skilled in creating interactive, goal-oriented, and engaging lessons. Our tutors act as educational experts and mentors, as they help students develop a love for learning, grow in a deeper awareness of how to improve, and practice strategies for positive work habits.Our tutors are independently contracted. This means you can set your own hours!
